Creative Skills – Rachel Drury & Heather Armstrong – Starcatchers
Heather Armstrong is the Creative Skills Manager for Starcatchers, a pioneering organisation that specialises in performances and creativity for babies, toddlers and young children aged 0-5 and their parents and carers in Scotland.
Heather is a strong advocate for the power the arts have to transform young lives, and champions a child-led, playful approach. After studying psychology, film-making and theatre, she worked for more than eight years with some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged children and young people, first as a freelance drama artist and then as a Creative Director, developing empowering approaches to the arts that put the child’s voice at the centre of the creative process.
In 2013 she joined Starcatchers and developed the Creative Skills Programme, innovative artist led training designed to help Early Years practitioners feel, and be, more creative. By exploring the expressive arts in an open-ended, child-centred way, the training has been transforming Early Years practice across Scotland.
